Michael Nelhams

Director of Open Banking and Payments,

Michael has over 20 years in Payments and Banking with his foundational knowledge built across the full delivery lifecycle from payment strategy, programme creation and management through to implementation in Cards, APM’s and interbank payments. He has gained this experience working for leading consultancies as well as in banks which has enabled him to gain a broad perspective on the business drivers and solutions across the payments ecosystem.

In his role at EPAM Michael works as an advisor through consult, design and build. He has a global remit understanding client requirements and helping them navigate through this incredibly exciting and dynamic ecosystem for best fit solutions and partnerships. This encapsulates fintechs, corporates, banks and payment network providers with a diverse range of business objectives and technology solutions.

His previous roles have included, Senior Manager roles at Accenture and Cognizant in the Financial Services sector, where he delivered two Payment Strategies for UK Retail Banks and held senior delivery payments roles for bank mergers, large scale card migrations and payments regulatory implementations. Michael also represented a bank for the implementation of the CASS Service.

On the Industry side Michael has held roles such as, the Head of Strategic Initiatives at Bank of Ireland UK, which included representing the bank as part of the CMA9, Business programme lead for Metro Bank, running the Core Banking upgrade covering the entire business end to end and as an implementation manager for Visa Europe.
